Tangos have been a part of the repertoire of the 12 Cellists of the Berliner Philharmoniker for many years. The works of Astor Piazzolla in particular are the perfect combination of melancholy and verve, cantabile and rhythmic conciseness, entertainment value and compositional demands. The autumn of 2015 saw a concert devoted to this South American dance. The participation of dancers and the singer Anna Prohaska added to the success of the performance. In this film, the cellists of this “One instrument only” group talk about the specific character of the cello, their passion for tango, the constant search for new repertoire, and what the older and younger members of the 12 Cellists can learn from each other.
