Orchestral musicians do not often have the opportunity to pursue a love of music from the Baroque period. As a result, members of the Berliner Philharmoniker took the logical step and founded the Berliner Barock Solisten in 1995 – an ensemble that is now among the best in the field of early music. A concert at the Philharmonic in March 2012 gave audiences the chance to hear synthesis qualities for themselves. Also appearing was the tenor Mark Padmore, whose outstanding performance in the St Matthew Passion under Sir Simon Rattle remains in the memory of Berlin audiences. In an introduction to the concert, Mark Padmore and leader Bernhard Forck present the works performed this evening.
